What it costs

  • 21 of the 22 programs here publish an all-in monthly price for compounded semaglutide: $65 to $299 a month, with a median of $169. That includes the medication and any membership the program requires.
  • 12 of these prices need a prepaid or fixed plan of 3 months or more; each says so beside the price.
  • 1 program doesn’t publish a price for it before you sign up.
  • A sale counts at its regular price, with the sale price shown beside it.

Safety

One of these treatments carries an FDA boxed warning, the strongest warning on a label: semaglutide.

SemaglutideNot FDA-approved

How GLP-1 weight loss medications work

GLP-1 medications copy a hormone your gut releases after you eat. They signal fullness to your brain and slow how quickly food leaves your stomach, so most people feel satisfied with less food and think about food less often. Many describe the quieter “food noise” as the biggest surprise.

Most are a once-weekly injection you give yourself at home with a short, thin needle. Two are now daily pills. Doses start low and step up every four weeks or so, which keeps the most common side effects, mainly nausea and other stomach upset, more manageable.

Which medication is which

Several of these are the same molecule sold under different names for different conditions.

Brand-name or compounded?

Brand-name GLP-1s such as Wegovy and Zepbound are FDA-approved and made by their manufacturers. Compounded versions are prepared by state-licensed pharmacies for an individual prescription. They usually cost less, but they are not FDA-approved and the FDA does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality. Our compounded GLP-1 guide covers what changed in 2025 and how to choose a program carefully.

What to look for in a provider

  • The price at your maintenance dose, not just month one. Programs that charge the same at every dose are easier to budget for.
  • A real clinical review. A licensed clinician should review your history and adjust your dose when side effects hit or progress stalls.
  • A licensed US pharmacy, and a clear statement of whether your medication is compounded or FDA-approved.
  • Terms you can live with. Check for prepaid terms, cancellation windows and what happens if you are not prescribed.

Not sure which program fits?

Answer five quick questions about budget, medication and insurance, and we’ll rank the programs for you. No email or sign-up needed.

Questions, answered

Is compounded semaglutide the same as Wegovy?

No. Compounded semaglutide is not Wegovy, and not a generic of it. Wegovy is FDA-approved and made by Novo Nordisk. A compounding pharmacy prepares compounded semaglutide for an individual prescription, and it isn’t FDA-approved or reviewed by the FDA for safety, effectiveness or quality.

Is compounded semaglutide still legal in 2026?

Semaglutide came off the FDA drug shortage list in February 2025, which ended broad copying of the brand drug. Licensed pharmacies can still compound it when a prescriber decides a patient needs a personalised formulation. Read our compounded GLP-1 guide for details.

How much does compounded semaglutide cost?

$65 to $299 a month, taking each program’s lowest ongoing price with medication and any required membership included; the median is $173.50. That covers 20 programs, on any plan length, with first-month discounts left out.

Does the price of compounded semaglutide rise with the dose?

At some programs. 12 of the 21 programs that publish a compounded semaglutide price say it stays the same at every dose; at the others, check the price at 1.7 mg and 2.4 mg, the doses most people stay on.

Is compounded semaglutide safe?

It isn’t FDA-approved, so the FDA hasn’t reviewed it for safety, effectiveness or quality. The FDA has also warned about dosing mistakes with compounded semaglutide drawn from multi-dose vials, some of which sent people to hospital. Use a program that names its pharmacy, and ask for the dose in milligrams and in syringe units.

What dose of semaglutide do programs start with?

Most follow the Wegovy schedule: 0.25 mg once a week for 4 weeks, then 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg and 2.4 mg, stepping up every 4 weeks. Your clinician can slow the climb if side effects are hard to manage. See the Wegovy label.
