In short

  1. Topical minoxidil costs from $15 a month at Hims, the lowest monthly price an online provider we compare publishes, as of October 2026; it needs no prescription.
  2. Low-dose oral minoxidil costs $18.33 to $35 a month; Strut Health’s $55 for a 90-day supply of 1.25 mg tablets is the lowest monthly price.
  3. Compounded chews, gummies and capsules cost $20 to $35 a month for minoxidil alone, and $35 to $90 combined with finasteride.
  4. Oral minoxidil for hair loss is off-label, and the tablet label carries a boxed warning for serious heart effects; the cost of a clinician visit is included at most providers here.
  5. Keeps bills $33 for minoxidil solution and $90 for oral minoxidil per delivery, every 3, 6 or 12 months, without stating the supply on the card.

Minoxidil is one of the least expensive hair loss treatments you can buy, but its price depends heavily on the form. Topical minoxidil, the solution or foam sold as Rogaine and as generics, needs no prescription. Low-dose oral minoxidil needs one and is off-label for hair loss. Compounded chews and gummies, often mixed with finasteride or biotin, cost the most.

As of October 2026, the online providers we track charge from $15 a month for topical minoxidil and $18.33 to $35 for oral minoxidil, taking each provider’s lowest price; other products at the same provider can cost more, such as Hims’ foam at $19. Here is what each price buys.

Topical minoxidil prices

Topical minoxidil is FDA-approved without a prescription for hereditary hair loss, as a 2% or 5% solution or a 5% foam. Online providers sell it alongside their prescription products, so you can order both in one place.

ProviderProductPriceBilling
HimsMinoxidil serumFrom $15 a monthMonthly

KeepsMinoxidil foam 5%$50 per delivery ($35 first order)Every 3, 6 or 12 months
Happy Head5% minoxidil topical solution, USP$42 on subscribe and save ($49 one-time)Every 3 months

Hims publishes the lowest monthly price. Keeps ships and bills every 3, 6 or 12 months and does not state the supply length on its product cards, so we can’t turn its $33 into a monthly figure. Happy Head bills $42 every 3 months on subscription.

Topical minoxidil is also sold in pharmacies and stores. Retail prices vary by brand, pack size and store, so we compare only the online providers that publish theirs.

Oral minoxidil prices

Minoxidil tablets are FDA-approved only for severe high blood pressure, in 2.5 mg and 10 mg strengths. For hair loss, clinicians prescribe them off-label at lower doses. The label carries a boxed warning for fluid around the heart and worsening angina, so the prescription step matters more than the price.

ProviderProductPriceMonthly equivalent
Strut HealthOral minoxidil 1.25 mg tablets$55 for a 90-day supply$18.33
Happy HeadOral minoxidil capsule (compounded)$20 a month; $17 on a 12-month supply$20
HimsMinoxidil and supplement chew (compounded)From $35 a month$35
KeepsOral minoxidil$90 per delivery ($63 first order)Not stated

Strut Health is the lowest monthly price, and its prices include physician visits, follow-ups and free shipping. Its page notes a $40 physician consultation fee if you transfer the prescription to a pharmacy outside its network. Happy Head is close at $20 a month, falling to $17 on a 12-month supply.

Generic tablets cost less than compounded chews and gummies. The compounded products add convenience or extra ingredients such as biotin, and they are not FDA-approved.

Combined with finasteride

Many providers sell minoxidil mixed with finasteride, the prescription drug that lowers DHT. These blends are compounded and not FDA-approved, and the topical versions are covered by an April 2025 FDA alert on compounded topical finasteride.

FormMonthly price rangeExamples
Topical spray, serum or solution$35 to $193Hims spray $35, Strut 5-in-1 $59, Happy Head $63.20, Hone Health $193 with its Premium membership
Chew or capsule$35 to $90Hims chew $35, Happy Head SuperCapsule $63.20, MangoRx Grow $90

Keeps sells both forms per delivery: its topical gel is $180 and its 3-in-1 chew $154.99, billed every 3, 6 or 12 months. Hone Health’s topical finasteride and minoxidil is $38 a month on top of a membership, $193 a month with the $155 Premium tier.

Buying the two drugs separately usually costs less, though not at Hims. FDA-approved generic finasteride tablets run $18 to $55 a month at the providers that publish a price (regular prices), so a finasteride tablet plus topical minoxidil can come in under $40 a month. See our cheapest finasteride list.

Six months of minoxidil

Minoxidil takes months to show results, so a six-month view is more useful than one month. These are six months at each provider’s published price, as of October 2026, before any first-order discount.

OptionSix-month cost
Hims minoxidil serum (no prescription)$90
Strut Health oral minoxidil 1.25 mg (two 90-day orders)$110
Happy Head oral minoxidil capsule (1-month price)$120
Hims minoxidil chew$210
Hims finasteride plus minoxidil serum, bought separately$222

The cheapest topical and the cheapest pill differ by about $20 over six months. Adding finasteride from the same provider more than doubles the cost. At Hims, the compounded finasteride and minoxidil spray ($35 a month, $210 for six months) costs slightly less than the tablet and serum bought separately, but it is not FDA-approved.

What the price covers

  • The prescription. Oral minoxidil and finasteride blends need a clinician. At Strut Health, Hims, Keeps and Happy Head the consultation is free or built into the price; Hone Health charges a membership.
  • Shipping. Hims, Strut Health, Happy Head and MangoRx ship free. Keeps says additional costs apply.
  • The supply. A low monthly price can rest on a 3-, 6- or 12-month supply. Happy Head’s oral minoxidil is $20 a month on a 1-month supply and $17 on 12 months; Strut’s $18.33 is a 90-day order.
  • Refunds. Keeps says all purchases are final, and Strut gives no refunds once medication leaves the pharmacy. Happy Head refunds your most recent month’s supply within 6 months if you are unsatisfied.

Is the cheaper form good enough?

Price is only part of the decision. In a 24-week trial of 90 men, 5 mg of oral minoxidil a day was not superior to 5% topical minoxidil twice a day on hair density, although photos favored the oral group on the crown. Unwanted body hair affected 49% of the oral group. Topical minoxidil is the approved form and usually the cheaper one; oral minoxidil is easier to take every day. Our oral vs topical minoxidil guide covers the trade-offs, and the men’s Rogaine label says results may take at least 4 months.

The bottom line

Topical minoxidil costs from $15 a month online and needs no prescription. Oral minoxidil costs $18.33 to $35 a month, needs a prescription and is off-label, with a boxed warning on the tablet label. Compounded blends with finasteride cost $35 to $90.
