In short

  1. FDA-approved generic sildenafil cost $1.60 to $6.25 a dose at the online providers we checked on October 18, 2026.
  2. Strut Health had the lowest price: $1.60 a dose at 25 mg, sold as 30 doses for $48 every 90 days, with the physician consult and shipping included.
  3. Rex MD charged $2 a tablet during its fall sale, though its FAQ quotes sildenafil from $6 a pill.
  4. Brand-name Viagra cost $96 a dose at Rex MD and $139 at Hims, 60 to 87 times the cheapest generic price.
  5. Medicare Part D does not cover drugs used only for erectile dysfunction, so most men pay cash.

Generic sildenafil, the FDA-approved form of Viagra’s active ingredient, cost $1.60 to $6.25 a dose at the online providers we checked on October 18, 2026. The cheapest price, at Strut Health, is about a quarter of the most expensive, at PeterMD. Brand-name Viagra cost $96 to $139 a dose at the two providers that publish a price.

The headline number is rarely the whole story, though. The price usually depends on the strength, some providers add a consult fee, and some bill several months at once. Below is what each provider charges, what the price covers and the terms to check before you pay.

Prices at a glance

These are the prices for FDA-approved generic sildenafil tablets as listed on each provider’s own site on October 18, 2026. “Per dose” means one tablet.

Hone Health lists sildenafil at $40 a month; its medication is billed on top of a membership, $155 a month for Premium, which Hone says gives full access to its medications. Ro also prescribes generic sildenafil. Our sildenafil rankings order these providers by overall score.

Why the prices differ so much

Strength

Sildenafil comes in 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg tablets. The Viagra label recommends 50 mg for most men, about an hour before sex, moving to 25 mg or 100 mg depending on how well it works and how well you tolerate it. Men over 65 and men on alpha-blockers may start at 25 mg.

Providers that publish a price for every strength make the cost of a higher dose plain. Strut Health charges $1.60 a dose at 25 mg, $3.20 at 50 mg and $4.80 at 100 mg, sold as 30 doses for $48, $96 or $144. If you are prescribed 50 mg, the number that matters is $3.20, not $1.60.

Sale prices

Rex MD advertised a fall sale on October 18, 2026, with sildenafil from $2 a tablet. The same page’s FAQ says patients can get sildenafil for as little as $6 a pill. The page does not say when the sale ends, so confirm the price at checkout.

Fees on top

Lemonaid Health lists ED medicines from $2 a pill, plus a one-time $25 consult that covers 12 refills. Spread over a year of refills, the fee adds little, but it is a cost the per-pill price leaves out. Its $2 claim also does not name the drug or strength. Hone Health starts with a $65 lab test and physician consult before any prescription.

Billing periods

Keeps prices sildenafil from $3.20 a dose but bills every 3, 6 or 12 months, and its policy says all sales are final. Strut’s lowest price is billed as a 90-day supply. A low per-dose price that you pay three months at a time is still a good deal, but you are paying up front.

What a month actually costs

How much you spend depends on how often you take it. The label allows one dose a day at most, and a dose works for one occasion. Here is what the published prices work out to:

  • Six doses of 50 mg a month at Strut Health cost $19.20 at $3.20 each, though you buy 30 doses at a time for $96.
  • Six doses at Rex MD’s sale price of $2 cost $12; at the $6 FAQ price, $36.
  • Hims’s starting price is $22 a month; its page says the actual price depends on the product and plan.
  • Ten tablets at PeterMD cost $62.50; 30 cost $180.

If you take sildenafil only a few times a month, per-dose pricing usually beats a monthly subscription. If you want to be ready most days, a daily tadalafil plan may suit you better; see where generic Cialis is cheapest.

Compounded chewables are not generic sildenafil

Several providers sell sildenafil as a chewable or dissolving tablet: BlueChew from $3.53 a tablet, Hims’s sildenafil chews from $30 a month and MangoRx from $59 a month. These are compounded. A pharmacy prepares them for an individual prescription, and they are not Viagra, not generics of it, and not FDA-approved.

On September 9, 2025, the FDA sent BlueChew a warning letter over claims on its site such as “SIL: Same active as Viagra”, which the agency said implied the products were the same as an FDA-approved drug when they are not. Some providers also sell chewables that combine sildenafil with tadalafil. We don’t list those: both drugs’ labels tell patients not to take two ED medicines of this type together.

Chewables suit men who have trouble swallowing pills. On price, FDA-approved generic tablets are usually cheaper. Our chewables comparison covers the options.

Brand-name Viagra

Brand-name Viagra, made by Viatris, cost $96 a dose at Rex MD and $139 at Hims on October 18, 2026. That is 60 to 87 times the cheapest generic price of $1.60. Drugs@FDA lists Viagra as approved on March 27, 1998, and still marketed. Our guide to what Viagra costs compares brand and generic in detail.

Will insurance pay?

Usually not for ED alone. Federal law excludes drugs “when used for the treatment of sexual or erectile dysfunction” from Medicare Part D, unless the drug is used for another FDA-approved condition. Sildenafil is also approved for pulmonary arterial hypertension, at a lower dose, under the name Revatio, so coverage can apply there. Many private plans limit ED drugs too. Online providers are cash-pay, and the generic prices above are often lower than a copay.

Before you pay

  • Check the price for the strength you will take, not only the lowest one.
  • Ask whether a consult, membership or shipping fee applies.
  • Note the billing period: monthly, every 90 days, or several months up front.
  • Read the refund terms. Strut, Keeps and PeterMD don’t refund once medication ships or is received.
  • Make sure the product is an FDA-approved tablet if that is what you want, not a compounded chewable.

A licensed clinician will ask about your heart health and your medicines before prescribing. Sildenafil must never be taken with nitrates such as nitroglycerin, because the combination can drop blood pressure dangerously.

The bottom line

Generic sildenafil cost $1.60 to $6.25 a dose online as of October 2026. Strut Health was cheapest per dose, with the consult and shipping included, and Rex MD was close on its sale price. Compare the price at your prescribed strength, add any fees, and check whether you are paying monthly or months in advance. Our ED provider rankings and the ED hub put the providers side by side.

Questions, answered

What is the cheapest way to get generic Viagra?

At the online providers we checked on Oct 18, 2026, Strut Health was cheapest at $1.60 a dose for 25 mg sildenafil (30 doses for $48 every 90 days, consult and shipping included). Rex MD charged $2 a tablet during its fall sale. Prices rise with strength, so compare the price for the dose you are prescribed.

Is generic sildenafil the same as Viagra?

FDA-approved generic sildenafil contains sildenafil citrate, the active ingredient in Viagra, at the same strengths, and is approved for the same use. Compounded sildenafil chewables are different: they are not Viagra and not a generic of it, and they are not FDA-approved.

Does insurance cover generic Viagra?

Often not. Federal law excludes drugs used only for erectile dysfunction from Medicare Part D, and many private plans limit or exclude them. Online providers are cash-pay, and the cheapest generic prices are low enough that many men skip insurance.

Why is 100 mg sildenafil more expensive than 25 mg?

Many providers price by strength. Strut Health, for example, charges $1.60 a dose at 25 mg, $3.20 at 50 mg and $4.80 at 100 mg. Most men start at 50 mg, so check that price, not just the headline one.
